Obituary for Al Parrott, Sr.

NORTH AUGUSTA, SC – A Sunset Celebration of Life for Al Parrott, Sr., 90, who entered into rest surrounded by his loving family on August 7, 2020, will be conducted Saturday evening, August 22, 2020, at 6:30 pm at his daughter’s residence, 148 Summerlake Drive, North Augusta. Rev. Roy Kiser officiating. The family respectfully requests that those in attendance wear masks and practice social distancing precautions.
Mr. Parrott was a native of Johnsonville, SC. A former resident of Branchville and Allendale, SC, he had made North Augusta his home for the past 35 years. The youngest son of a sharecropper, Mr. Parrott made the most of life’s opportunities in both his personal and professional life. He was a retired U.S. Army veteran who proudly served his country for 27 years. He also developed a notable career as an environmental analyst working at the Savannah River Site for both E.I. DuPont and Westinghouse. During his tenure, Mr. Parrott worked with many notable figures, including Dr. Ruth Patrick and Marlin Perkins, host of Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom television series. A noted author of numerous environmental publications, he also obtained many professional certifications from prestigious institutions including the University of South Carolina and Georgia Institute of Technology. Mr. Parrott retired after 42 years of service at the Site, with Parrott Park in “A” Area named in his honor.
Mr. Parrott also faithfully served his family and the communities in which he lived, including coaching youth sports and actively working with the Jaycees and North Augusta SERTOMA Club. An avid golfer and skilled wood craftsman, “Al” also loved music and dancing, especially shagging. Al was a member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta, where he attended the Bobby Dodd Sunday School Class. He was a faithful father and grandfather who loved his family unceasingly, and he was always found on the sidelines cheering at his grandchildren’s sporting events. Mr. Parrott was preceded in death by his son, Michael Parrott.
Survivors include his devoted, loving wife of 35 years, Jane Spivey Parrott; four children, Al “Ricky” Parrott and Carl “Chip” (Dawn) Parrott, both of Branchville, and Tracy Nordeen (Bob) Griffin and Glenn “Skip” (Tina) Nordeen, both of North Augusta; 11 grandchildren, Brooks Parrott, Michael (Lucy) Parrott, Bryan (Cassie) Parrott, Joshua (Samantha) Parrott, Carl Parrott, Jacob (Tamra) Parrott, Shane Parrott, Zak Griffin, Jaxson Griffin, Natalie Nordeen, and Nathan Nordeen; 11 great grandchildren; and a brother and very best friend, William “Bill” (Sandra) Parrott, Savannah.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Parrott’s grandchildren.
The Parrott family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Elizabeth, Belinda, Melisha, Virgil, and other Regency Hospice staff who provided such attentive care for Mr. Parrott.
